Coronavirus Watch

Thursday, April 22

The United States is among the worldwide leaders in vaccination rate, having administered at least one dose to 41% of its population.

Leading the charge is Israel, with roughly 62% of its population at least partially vaccinated.

It's Thursday, and this is Coronavirus Watch from the USA TODAY Network. Here's more news to know today, as of 1:45 p.m. EDT.

India has rapidly emerged as a hot spot for virus infections. The world's second-most populated nation reported a global one-day record of more than 314,000 new infections Thursday. Last month, India was reporting fewer new cases in a week than it is now reporting in a day.
A lot of older teens only have access to one vaccine, and it's the hardest one to roll out in rural America.
A slew of states have been quick to ban so-called "vaccine passports." The latest is Indiana, where some social conservatives argue their state's newly passed legislation didn't go far enough, arguing the ban on vaccine mandates should extend to private businesses as well.
