The United States is now averaging fewer than 50,000 new coronavirus cases per day, a level not seen since early October and a sign that the nation's mass vaccination program is having an impact on the pandemic, a USA TODAY analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows.

More than 150 million Americans have received at least one dose of a vaccine, but herd immunity against COVID-19 could be a pipedream, experts say. President Biden on Monday balked at the opportunity to answer when the country might reach it.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an executive order to suspend local COVID-19 restrictions statewide.
New York City is dropping most virus restrictions, while New York state, New Jersey and Connecticut are set to lift capacity limits May 19.
Is the Biden administration doing enough for India? Some accuse the US and other wealthy nations of hoarding COVID-19 vaccines while India deals with a deepening virus crisis.
