To prevent the spread of the delta variant, fully vaccinated people should now wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas with high COVID-19 transmission, according to new CDC guidance. |
The CDC is also recommending universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students and visitors inside K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. |
Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, cited new research Tuesday showing breakthrough cases – infections among fully vaccinated people – though rare, have the potential to transmit with "the same capacity" as in those who are not fully vaccinated. |
"This is different now with the delta variant," Walensky said. She added: "The big concern is that the next variant that might emerge, just potentially a few mutations away, could potentially evade our vaccines." More here. |
