Good morning, folks. The weekend is officially here and so is a full day of coverage at the Tokyo Olympics. As exciting as the start of the Games were, Day 1 for Team USA was very meh.

For the first time since the Munich Olympics in 1972, the Americans were shut out of the medals on the opening day of competition. You heard that right. No golds, silvers or bronzes.

Brady Ellison, a three-time Olympic medalist in archery who is ranked No. 1 in the world, was stunned alongside Mackenzie Brown 5-4 by Indonesia in the first round of the mixed event.

"I'm a little shocked, to be honest," he said. You and us both, sir.

🥇 Major Team USA wins: Ahem, see above. Outside of medal contention, though, the Americans were just fine. That starts with the "badass" U.S. women's water polo team crushing Japan 25-4. The U.S. women's softball team handled Mexico 3-0, with first lady Jill Biden watching at the U.S. embassy. Biden also watched in person the U.S. women 3-on-3 basketball team beat France 17-10 and then went to swimming preliminaries.
